Members of the MountainTown Singers barbershop chorus see area residents join in during their local appearances. They experience firsthand that singing creates happy energy and brings the community together.
They know many residents would consider singing if they could do it over a couple of months — including individuals who’ve been known only to sing in the car, shower, around a bonfire or with their kids.
Which leads to MountainTown Family Chorus, with four separate seven-week rehearsal seasons throughout the year. The chorus is for couples, cousins, siblings and friends who are like family, and for grandparents, parents and children at least 10 years old. Singing experience and the ability to read music are NOT required.
Participants may sign up for any or all of the chorus seasons. The first begins March 5 with rehearsals each Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Flextech High (formerly Morey Charter School) in Shepherd. The season concludes with a two-song performance as part of a concert on the Flextech stage Sunday, April 19.
The other three seasons will run:
- May 21 through July 2, with a concert July 9.
- Sept. 24 through Oct. 5, with a concert Nov. 1.
- Nov. 4 through Dec. 20, with a performance date still to be announced.
“Singing with other people is an incredible experience,” said Joe McDonald, president of the Mount Pleasant chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and bass in MountainTown Singers. “MountainTown Family Chorus gives area residents the opportunity to come together and make great memories.
Participation is $20 per person per season, with family/group rates available.
